Beaumont is a thriving French town with a visible connection to its history. With a current 2016 population of 17,396 people, Beaumont has been recognized as one of Alberta's fastest growing municipalities. It's expanding downtown core forgoes the glass and steel appeal of larger cities, keeping in step instead with its turn of the century brick work and stained glass features.
Beaumont was incorporated in 1973 with only a population of 412, the majority of which were farmers of French descent. The resident parish, St. Vital Church sits directly atop the beautiful hill as it has since 1919. But the church has a vivid and colourful history in itself.
Beaumont is recognized for its many stories and its strong community cohesion. But its central location in the capital region make it an attractive business area. Bordering Edmonton's southern city limits and being less than 10 minutes west of the Edmonton International Airport, Beaumont attracts retail, light industrial and commercial businesses seeking access and reduced operating costs. Niku and Leduc are only a few minutes away, which speaks to the steady growth of the town. Within Beaumont, two major commercial developments are undergoing expansion, one in the north and one in the south edge of town. Though the town does not currently manage a business park or major industrial development, many residents feel this is a boon that adds to the unique and quaint character of the town, and it makes more room for smaller research, energy and other businesses to settle and thrive.
Beaumont's outdoor lifestyle is as alluring as the scenery. The town bears over 250 acres of parklands, a dozen baseball diamonds, over a dozen soccer fields, outdoor rinks, inline rinks volleyball courts outdoor basketball courts and winding paths between most of them, finding these active areas is as much fun as playing in them. And with over 100 unique service and volunteer community organizations, clubs and groups, Beaumont's bustling with activity.
